Bridal Shower Idea: Show your guests some love with a Valentine's Day theme

Over the past weekend I attended my BFF's Valentine's Day-themed bridal shower. Having received the inside scoop from the bride herself, I thought I'd share all her great tips for hosting a lovely love-themed soiree.

The bride really wanted her guests to get excited about the theme of her shower. For $1.25 ea. she dressed the hall in red chair covers finished with a huge bow on the back at 60 guests she payed $75 and what a statement...worth every penny!…

Valentine’s Day Survey: What’s on Brides’ Minds?

Happy Valentine’s Day, Thrifty Brides! Today is a very popular day to pop the question. But before you do that, check out these statistics released by David’s Bridal.

Seems like when it comes to the ring, bigger is better. More than half of the brides asked (57%) said they would change something about their engagement ring if they could; with the biggest gripe being wanting a bigger stone (19%). Despite this, only 36% actually would go through with…

DIY Favour: Homemade Vanilla Extract

This Christmas, I felt inspired to make a part of the gift I would be giving to my co-workers. I saw a blog post a while ago about making homemade vanilla extract. I figured I'd give it a go. After eyeing the final product, I decided this gift could also make an easy and affordable wedding favour.

The key to this project is bottling the extract months in advance as the vanilla will be more dark and flavourful with age. Think at least 8 weeks.

What you…

Are doughnuts the new cupcakes?

"I think people are ready for a new trend" says Ashley Jacot De Boinod, owner of Glory Hole Doughnuts, located on Queen West in Toronto. Ashley is referring to the heroic comeback of the doughnut - the newest trend in wedding indulgence.

Now I must say, I have never been a fan of the beloved fried and glazed ring. I chalk it up to the motion sickness I would experience during childhood trips to Sudbury and my father insisting…

After-Party Attire: The Little White Dress

Once the ceremony has ended and hundreds of pictures have been snapped, it's time to get down and celebrate with your guests. 5 Pumpkin Favours for Fall (warning: these look yummy)

The official change of season is upon us. And although I will miss the hot and hazy days of summer, fall is one of the best times of year. Maybe it's the large quantities of turkey, or getting free candy while in costume, or maybe it's my birthday...I really don't know. What I do know is that it is a popular month for couples to get hitched - the weather is just right and the fall foliage makes for some stunning pictures. 'Tis also the season of the pumpkin, which happens to be my favourite…

To Our Vendors: We Couldn't Have Done it Without You

It was a monumental summer for the girls here at Confessions of a Thrifty Bride. We decided it would be logical and fun for us to attempt a foray into the bridal show biz. True to the nature of three ambitious ladies, we thought "hey, why do one show when you can tackle three?"

And so began a whirlwind of a summer filled with more plotting and managing than pina coladas and martinis. We rarely seemed to take a breather without a new chaotic situation presenting itself…
